Over time, our skin naturally begins some of the fullness it had during our youth. This is due in large part to the loss of collagen and accumulated environmental damage skin that naturally occurs as we age. Dermal fillers are a non-invasive, injectable way to correct some of this volume lost in the face and lips, without the pain or commitment associated with surgical methods.
Located in San Mateo CA, Renew Laser Clinic is dedicated to providing patients with sophisticated aesthetic care. If you’d like more information about our practice or are interested in scheduling a consultation, contact us today.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable aesthetic treatments used to correct fine lines, wrinkles, or add volume to the face and lips. These work by adding temporary volume and triggering the growth of collagen in the skin. Because these dermal fillers are flushed from the system over time, the changes they produce are only temporary. Periodic injections will be needed to sustain any changes made by these treatments. Fortunately, each session of these injections typically take no longer than 30 minutes and involve no downtime, so you can undergo them and go right back to your daily routine.
JUVEDERM® is a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler that can provide moderate to severe wrinkle correction for 9-12 months. While it can be used in all areas of the face, it is particularly successful in correcting nasolabial folds. This product utilizes a sophisticated Hylacross technology that makes the hyaluronic acid solution particularly smooth and malleable, so you get beautiful, natural-looking results. JUVEDERM® is FDA-approved to be mixed with lidocaine, a mild anesthetic that can improve patient comfort.
Another hyaluronic acid based dermal filler, Restylane® can be used in all areas of the face, and is especially good under the eyes. The results of this treatment typically last between 6-12 months.
Bellafill® is the only dermal filler that is FDA-approved for the correction of moderate to severe atrophic, distensible facial acne scars on the cheeks. It can also be used to correct facial wrinkles, most notably the nasolabial folds. This injectable is a polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) collagen filler that provides nearly instantaneous results while also building a stable collagen matrix for sustained changes. Results for this treatment have been known to last for up to 5 years, and it has a 91% rate of patient satisfaction.
